Craft Alliance faculty member Joanne Kluba has two of her handmade books featured in the recent Lark publication, 500 Handmade Books, Volume 2. She also had one book in the first edition. The two art books included are Blinded By Science and Mary’s Quilts. Blinded By Science features a hand painted, collaged binding with calligraphy of words pulled from underlined passages in a 1958 Science Text Book. The pages are Japanese chiri and sekishu paper. The second book, Mary’s Quilts, is a woven structure called “sing weave.” Pages are held together by woven pieces of tyvec and weave back and forth through the book, locking the pages into book form.
